PDO Mono threads are a skin treatment aimed at tightening and thickening your skin, as well as overall facial rejuvenation. They are made from an absorbable polymer ‘suture’ which is about the size of a strand of hair. They sit underneath the surface of the skin and get broken down by your body over time, which results in stimulated collagen production, and a firming and tightening effect on your skin. Mono threads differ from thread lifts which used long barbed threads to lift tissues, however they can still provide an improvement of fine lines and wrinkles by gradually stimulating natural collagen production.
PDO Mono Threads help to create new collagen that supports your face and creates a tightening effect that lasts 6-12 months after your treatment. The results vary depending on lifestyle factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise etc. It is recommended to have another PDO Mono Thread treatment six months after the initial treatment to maintain the tightening effects.
You will begin to see the results within six weeks of your treatment, these results continue to improve over the next 2-6 months as new collagen is produced.
We apply topical anaesthetic before the PDO Mono Thread treatment, so any discomfort you experience is minimal. You may experience a firm feeling and some tenderness in the area that has been treated for a few days after the procedure. A PDO Mono Thread treatment may produce swelling and bruising in the area that has been treated, which will subside after a few days.
There are two different types of PDO Mono Threads available.
- Mono Threads – are single strand PDO threads that are used for skin tightening and rejuvenation.
- Double Screw Threads – are a volumising thread, that have the PDO filament wound around the needle which are used to volumize and tighten an area.
